KILASTOTABUAN.COM, JAKARTA — Pihak berwenang Jamaika menangkap mantan anggota parlemen Haiti, Jean Joel Joseph, yang diduga berperan dalam pembunuhan mendiang Presiden Jovonel Moise tahun lalu.
Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) mengatakan, penangkapan terjadi pada Jumat (14/1) waktu setempat.
“JCF mengonfirmasi bahwa seorang warga negara Haiti, Jean Joel Joseph, bersama dengan tiga anggota keluarganya ditangkap di Jamaika atas tuduhan terkait imigrasi,” ujar pernyataan yang dirilis JCF, melansir AFP.
Joseph ditangkap di sebuah rumah di St. Elizabeth, paroki di barat daya Jamaika.
Seorang sumber kepolisian Jamaika mengatakan bahwa saat ini Joseph tengah berada dalam penahanan.
Sumber juga menyebut bahwa penangkapan tersebut dilakukan sebagai bentuk kerja sama penegakkan hukum internasional. Penyelidikan bersama terkait pembunuhan Presiden Haiti Jovonel Moise, sebutnya, juga tengah berlangsung lama.
JCF kemudian menghubungi pihak berwenang Haiti Haiti yang tengah melakukan pencarian Joseph terkait dengan kasus pembunuhan Moise pada Juli 2021 lalu.
Sebagaimana diketahui, Moise terbunuh hingga tewas pada 7 Juli 2021 lalu. Sekelompok orang menyerbu kediaman presiden dan menembaknya.
Sejumlah tersangka telah ditangkap atas pembunuhan Moise. Namun, hingga saat ini, pihak berwenang masih belum mengetahui pasti siapa dalang di balik pembunuhan tersebut.
Surat perintah penangkapan untuk Joseph sendiri dikeluarkan tepat setelah peristiwa pembunuhan. Pihak berwenang menggambarkan Josep sebagai sosok ‘bersenjata dan berbahaya’.
Sebuah laporan investigasi kepolisian Haiti juga menyatakan bahwa Joseph berperan penting dalam pembunuhan tersebut. Joseph disebut memiliki keinginan kuat untuk membunuh Moise.
Joseph sendiri merupakan seorang senator oposisi di parlemen Haiti. Ia dikenal sebagai seorang kritikus presiden Moise yang sangat sengit.
Awal bulan ini, Amerika Serikat (AS) juga menangkap mantan perwira militer Kolombia, Mario Antonio Palacios. Ia diduga turut berperan dalam pembunuhan presiden Moise. Palacios menjadi tersangka pertama yang menghadapi dakwaan. (*)
