KILASTOTABUAN.COM, JAKARTA — Sekitar 17 misionaris Amerika Serikat dilaporkan diculik oleh anggota geng di Haiti. Mereka disebut diculik saat dalam perjalanan dari Croix des Bouquets ke Titanyen.
Para misionaris itu melakukan perjalanan dengan kendaraan pada hari Sabtu (16/10) ke Titanyen, di utara ibu kota Port-au-Prince. Mereka sebelumnya mengunjungi sebuah panti asuhan di daerah Croix des Bouquets. Mereka disebut diculik di sepanjang rute antara dua tempat tersebut.
Belasan orang yang diculik terdiri dari 14 dewasa dan 3 anak-anak di bawah umur.
Pada Sabtu (16/10) malam waktu AS, juru bicara Departemen Luar Negeri AS menyatakan telah mengetahui laporan tersebut. Mereka mengatakan akan menjadikan keselamatan warga sebagai prioritas utama.
“Kesejahteraan dan keselamatan warga AS di luar negeri adalah salah satu prioritas tertinggi Departemen Luar Negeri. Kami mengetahui laporan ini dan tidak memiliki tambahan apa pun untuk ditawarkan saat ini,” kata juru bicara Departemen Luar Negeri AS, dilansir CNN pada Minggu (17/10).
Hingga saat ini Kementerian Kehakiman dan Polisi Nasional Haiti belum memberikan komentar.
Dilansir New York Times pada Sabutu (16/10), penculikan misionaris Amerika itu terjadi hanya sehari setelah Dewan Keamanan PBB memperpanjang misinya di Haiti. Banyak warga Haiti telah meminta Amerika Serikat untuk mengirim pasukan untuk menstabilkan situasi, tetapi pemerintahan Biden enggan untuk melakukan tindakan.
Haiti dalam pergolakan politik selama bertahun-tahun. Penculikan di Haiti telah melonjak sepanjang 2021. Angka meningkat hampir 300% sejak Juli.
Bagian dari ibukota Haiti, termasuk tempat penculikan terjadi, sangat berbahaya sehingga banyak penduduk meninggalkan wilayah itu. Banyak jalan telah diserahkan kepada geng, dan hanya sedikit pejalan kaki yang berkeliaran bahkan di siang hari.
Menurut data yang dirilis Pusat Analisis dan Penelitian Hak Asasi Manusia pada awal bulan ini, terdapat 628 kasus penculikan sejak Januari. Dari total kasus tersebut terdapat 29 di antaranya adalah orang asing. (*)
